Evergreen trees have been used for centuries, by many cultures and for a variety of reasons, including medicinal. Pine pitch, the resin that is secreted by the tree in response to injury, contains antimicrobial, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, making it a natural antiseptic and disinfectant.
Our Pine Pitch Salve is made with wild foraged resin, from the Lodgepole Pine, which has been infused in non-GMO Rice Bran Oil and with local beeswax.
It makes a wonderful first aid salve and may be applied directly to burns, cuts, scrapes and other minor wounds, to help prevent infection.
As a drawing salve, the resin warms and stimulates circulation and increases inflammation causing the sliver/splinters to rise to the surface.
These same warming and stimulating properties also make it helpful for easing sore muscles, achy joints and dull chronic pains.
The volatile terpenes in pine resin are helpful for respiratory congestion, and the salve may be rubbed on the chest for this purpose.
Pine resin is a counter-irritant that stimulates circulation and inflammation, intensifying the local immune response in order to speed up the body’s healing process, This may cause the user to experience slight localized redness on areas where applied.
Other beneficial uses may include: use as a beard balm and to relieve cracked hands/feet, bug bites, poison ivy, poison oak, fungal conditions, eczema, psoriasis, impetigo. The natural pine scent is light and pleasant.
