Despite the name, Balm of Gilead is not a balm but a salve made from the poplar buds of cottonwood trees. The resinous and incredible-smelling buds are analgesic, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory. I like to refer to it as "aspirin for the skin".
This salve may be beneficial for dry, cracked skin, cuts, abrasions, rashes, eczema, psoriasis, sunburn, arthritis inflammation, muscle and joint pain, insect bits and diminishing the appearance of scars.
CAUTION: Black Cottonwood buds contain salicylates; those with aspirin sensitivity, on blood thinners, have bleeding disorders and/or have had major surgery, should avoid this product Also, if pregnant or nursing, please consult your healthcare provider before use.
